One of the popular staples or side dishes eaten around the world is the rice. However, if you only eat rice occasionally, then perhaps you need some guidance on rice: how to cook it? Let’s take a look at the following tips and steps to help you learn about rice, how to cook it, and how to do it perfectly.

Cooking rice isn’t that hard to do but still a lot of cooks don’t always get it right. It’s easy to cook rice but sometimes it’s hard to make that perfect fluffy, tender rice without making it too mushy. Perfectly cooked rice will show each grain distinct. This isn’t impossible at all. You just need a few things to consider when cooking rice. Make sure that you have the right amount of water, a pot with a tight-fit lid, gentle heat, and resting period after cooking. Below are the steps on how to cook rice.

1. Rinsing the rice is the first thing to do. You want to get rid of any starch and impurities. Make sure that when you rinse the rice, the water must be clear and no longer cloudy.

2. After rinsing your rice, it’s time to add water to your long grain rice. If you are using a rice cooker, you’re in luck because rice cookers have their own rice cups and the pot has lines to tell you up to which line to fill with water depending on the number of cups you’ve used. If you don’t have the rice cooker, simply add 1 ½ cups of water for every one cup of long grain rice.

3. Now it’s time to boil your rice. Once you’ve filled up your pot with the appropriate amount of water, put it at medium heat uncovered until it boils.

4. Once it boils, turn down the heat to medium low and put the lid at an angle. This allows steam to escape.

5. After a few minutes of cooking, look for holes or craters building up in your rice. Once you see them, it’s time to put the lid tightly. Then lower your heat to a low setting.

6. Just check it from time to time and you’ll notice that the rice will become fluffy. Once fluffy, let the rice simmer for fifteen minutes while covered. Fluff it up with fork and then you’re ready to serve!
